SMM Parish is a vibrant Roman Catholic community of faith in the Brandywine Hundred region of North Wilmington. We pride ourselves on a high level of parishioner involvement in all areas of parish life, ministry, worship, and community service. Of course the focus of our faith is our Sunday celebration of the Eucharist. What begins in the heart of our worship together at Mass we strive to carry out in our parish and community.
June 21, 1951 -- Bishop Edmund J. FitzMaurice announces a new parish reaching north from Wilmington to the Pennsylvania state line. St. Mary Magdalen was born.
A rural countryside no longer, the Parish has grown with its people, through its people -- a caring, sharing spiritual family. Spanning into a new century, we recently celebrated our 50th Anniversary Year with the Jubilee 2000 year of the Church.
Daily, we strive to "Open Wide the Doors to Christ" and to fulfill our Parish mission "...to build a vital Catholic community through Worship, Education and Service." Centered in our beautiful church, school and parish life buildings, far-reaching ministriestouch every segment of Parish life
Our majestic church steeple reaches to the heavens as its crowning cross beckons and guides all below. Its shadow, at times, embraces the building across the way, site of the small chapel where 150 gathered September 23, 1951, for the Parish's first Mass. Colorful stained glass windows tell of Jesus' passion and compassion, the Eucharist, the diversified God-given talents of the Parish community. Mighty beams ascend in the towering nave.
Above the altar, the suspended crucifix perpetually reminds all of His sacrifice, the greatest sacrifice. Behind the altar, a golden engraved message curves gracefully, gently embracing the tabernacle and proclaiming to all the guiding spirit of St. Mary Magdalen Parish -- "The Master is Here."

Father James Kirk was installed as pastor of SMM Parish on Sunday July 19, 2015. The installation of a pastor is a public event in which a bishop officially appoints a priest to take on the responsibility of the care of souls for a particular parish. Bishop Malooly was the celebrant at the Installation held at the 9AM mass, light reception followed.
